The Nowra Youth Centre

Officially opened in Sept. 2004,The Nowra Youth Centre is a drug and alcohol free facility open to all, helping youth at risk in particular. The Centre is supervised by qualified youth workers, trainees, and members of the Koori Habitat Night Patrol.

The Youth Centre came about as an answer to concerns that the Nowra CBD had become a youth 'hang out' at night time. The Youth Centre:

  • Provides a user friendly environment within the CBD:
  • Offers lifestyle alternatives for youth at risk;
  • Fosters a positive care attitude;
  • Provides a safe, drug and alcohol free, supervised and attractive place for young people to meet and relax;
  • Offers professional counselling and other support; and
  • Houses a range of recreational facilities: Internet Cafe; Music Studio; Art Facilities; Games Area; Kitchen and BBQ; and TV & Movies.

The Youth Centre operates effectively, thanks to whole of government participation:

  • Shoalhaven City Council supplied and refurbished the building;
  • CDEP (DEWR) Provides both Management and Night Patrol Staff;
  • AGD’s (NSW) provides vehicle and supplementary funding; and
  • DOC’s (NSW) provides the youth worker and traineeships.
