Shoalhaven Safe Community Aboriginal Partnership (SSCAP)

The rates of injury, suicide, attempted suicide and interpersonal violence are unacceptably high in the Shoalhaven's Aboriginal community.

The Shoalhaven Safe Community Aboriginal Partnership (SSCAP) was established to promote the fundamental right that all people should feel safe in their homes and communities. Habitat Personnel is proud to be actively supporting this vital and comprehensive initiative.

The SSCAP's priorities can be summarised as:
1. Child safety across all environments;
2. Safe home and communities;
3. Reduction of levels and impact of interpersonal violence;
4. Development of positive options to drug and alcohol use;
5. Development of respect for self, community and culture.

These objectives are achievable via the following strategies:

  • Maximising the potential of the SSCAP;
  • Fostering a partnership approach across the Shoalhaven community, to build participation and community capacity;
  • Ensuring a total commitment to address the broad social needs of the community;
  • Ensuring considerate, encouraging and cooperative interaction between all partners and stakeholders;
  • Encouraging mutual respect and equity;
  • Encouraging pride in professionalism and integrity;
  • Accepting responsibility and accountability for all actions;
  • Adopting a positive, creative approach to problem solving through best practice and lateral consideration;
  • Assisting organisations to continually improve the quality of their services to the community;
  • Ensuring the efficient and effective use of community resources; and
  • Continually advancing the common good of the community.

Accountability is ensured by the SSCAP Code of Conduct: a written guideline recommending the preferred ethical practice and interactive behaviour of its members and stakeholders.
